Canadian Paralympic Committee statement on Todd Nicholson’s appointment to Chair of Own the Podium

Ottawa, August 21, 2018 – Own the Podium has announced that five-time Paralympian Todd Nicholson has been named the organization’s Chair of the Board of Directors.

Nicholson most recently served as Chef de Mission for the Canadian Paralympic Team at the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games, where Canada won a record 28 medals. A former captain of Canada’s Para ice hockey team, he is a three-time Paralympic medallist including gold at Torino 2006.

He has also served as Chairman of the International Paralympic Committee Athletes’ Council and as the IPC Athlete Representative to the International Olympic Committee. He has been a Director on the Own the Podium Board since 2015.

Statement from Marc-André Fabien, President of the Canadian Paralympic Committee:

“Congratulations to Todd Nicholson on being named Chair of Own the Podium. We know firsthand Todd’s leadership and passion for sport in Canada, and his drive for excellence will lead Canada towards more success at Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022. He has contributed to the Canadian sport community in so many different ways throughout his career, including as a Paralympic multi-medallist, and we are excited to continue working with Todd in his new role as we look to achieve more Paralympic podium performances.”
