Position Scope

Under the direction of the High Performance Pursuit Lead, the High Performance Pursuit Advisor is responsible for providing support throughout the Pursuit program relative to alignment, programming, high performance coaching and technical leader development as well as other aspects identified within Pursuit’s strategic plan.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Facilitation. Lead from the front and back of the room, educate and mentor complex audiences.
  • High Performance Acumen. Experience as a national high performance coach or technical leader in Canada.

  • Knowledge of High Performance Sport. Demonstrate technical/tactical/strategic knowledge of high performance sport and apply understanding of the summer and winter sport portfolios to enhance performance.
  • Self-Directed. Motivated to perform and seek opportunity in a fluid and flexible environment.
  • Administrative Competency. Competency in, Microsoft Teams and Office suite.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Administration. Prepare work plans, reports, and other documents as required. Support submissions, communications necessary for continued development of the Pursuit program. Attend meetings and activities that relate to the overall high performance programming environment and engage with members and partners. Delegate appropriately when needed.
  • Building Capability and Optimizing Talent – High Performance Coaches. Motivate and support the growth of individuals through development pathways to support unique needs and preferences in order to bring out their best and optimize performance.  Support individual and team development by providing tactical and technical through formal and informal training, and/or mentorship opportunities.
  • Building Capability and Optimizing Talent – Technical Leaders. Support the development of technical leaders’ knowledge, skills, abilities, and other attributes, through formal and informal training, coaching, and/or mentoring opportunities.
  • Building and Optimizing Relationships. Build connection and strong working relationships with high performance advisors (HPAs) and other performance partners to ensure alignment on approaches and priorities.
  • Developing, Delivering and Adapting Development Plans. Design develop and support initiatives and design the criteria and procedures to help individuals/teams enhance their own success in sport.

Job Posting Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree in High Performance Coaching and Technical Leadership / Advanced Coaching Diploma or similar advanced coaching education qualifications.
  • National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Competition-Development or Level 3 Certified or equivalent.
  • A minimum 5 years of experience as a National Coach or Technical Leader in Canada’s high performance sport system. 
This position will require domestic travel. Bilingual in both of Canada’s official languages is required.

Own the Podium is the governing body for the Pursuit program in Canada. Pursuit is an initiative built and delivered by Canada’s high performance partners that makes a long-term commitment to the development of coaches and technical leaders from Olympic and Paralympic targeted sports. Initiated in 2017 and originally called the Coaching Enhancement Program (CEP), in 2022 the rebranding shifted to Pursuit to include support for technical leaders.

Pursuit is a partnership of the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC), the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC), Sport Canada (SC) and Own the Podium (OTP). Pursuit is delivered by Own the Podium on behalf of the partners.
