Own the Podium (OTP) is looking for an experienced, passionate and dedicated professional who strives for excellence every day and has a passion for sport. Come join our team of sport technical leaders and advisors who guide and support National Sport Organizations (NSOs) in achieving sustainable and improved podium performances at the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Scope of Position:
The Vice President, Finance and Administration, plans and directs the corporate operations of OTP including formulating corporate policies, preparing annual budgets and forecasts, overseeing the corporation’s human resources activities and providing strategic oversight of all management information systems. The Vice President, Finance and Administration, is able to understand and contribute to building the strategic direction in addition to being a hands-on and participative professional that leads and develops an internal team to support the areas of finance, accounting, budgets, human resource management, IT, risk management, strategic planning and operational services.

Roles and Responsibilities

Financial Management:
  • Provide strategic financial advice, insight, and analysis to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Management Team, Board of Directors, and Finance and Audit Committee. This includes monthly and annual financial statements and reports, including appropriate analysis and recommendations.
  • Coordinate and lead annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and Finance and Audit Committee of the Board of Directors and implement any changes necessary.
  • Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with CEO and Management Team. Administer and oversee all financial plans in collaboration with Management Team.
  • Manage federal government funding applications and related processes
  • Implement and update all necessary business policies and accounting practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Human Resources:
  • Develop and implement human resource strategies in line with current and future OTP goals and objectives.
  • Build organizational capability and effectiveness through driving integral strategies and practices covering all facets of human resources including but not limited to talent acquisition, training and development, employee relations, compensation, benefits and performance management.   
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures and practices in keeping with current industry best practices and compliant with all applicable laws and regulations including Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures.
Management Information Systems:
  • Provide strategic and operational oversight of all management information systems (MIS) such that they enable OTP’s strategic goals.
  • Ensure there is linkage and integration of all MIS systems and related technology.
  • Ensure that internal systems, policies and practices are in accordance with leading practice.
Operational Services:
  • Lead the effective delivery of services and efficient administration of the organization as a whole.
  • Represent OTP in all matters pertaining to property management, including liaison with landlord, ensuring proper security, safety and cleanliness of premises.
Risk Management:
  • Responsible for the leadership, innovation, governance, and management necessary to identify, evaluate, mitigate, and monitor OTP’s operational and strategic risk.
  • Maintain OTP’s Risk Management Strategy, tools, practices, and policies.
  • Ensure the organization's risk management policies and strategies are in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Strategic and Operational Planning:
  • Enable the development of OTP’s strategic plan ensuring there is a vision for the organization going forward.
  • Liaise with key internal and external stakeholders and building relationships
  • Engage with partners in helping to shape OTP’s forward strategy.
  • Lead the development of OTP’s operational plans.
  • Provide support to the OTP Board and oversee the organization of meetings and strategic planning sessions.
  • Oversee the ongoing development of OTP’s website.
  • Oversee production of the newsletter, corporate collateral and annual report.
Leadership / Senior Management:
  • Participate as a member of the Senior Management Team.
  • Work in a manner that preserves confidentiality and seeks to minimize risk.
  • Work in a manner that incorporates the elements of a high performance organization.
  • Incorporate and strengthen collaboration and interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • Provide leadership to the Operations Team by keeping them informed and engaged, providing ongoing performance feedback, coaching and guidance.
  • Positively represent OTP with internal and external stakeholders.

Job Posting Qualifications

  • University degree in related field, Masters preferred (business administration, sport management).
  • Accounting designation or certification is an asset.
  • Verbal proficiency in both of Canada’s official languages is strongly preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: 
  • Experience and awareness of governance, financial management, change management, risk management and innovation.
  • Ability to think innovatively, strategically and critically, with proven problem-solving skills, excellent judgement, and is comfortable working in a changing environment.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate others, build partnerships and generate consensus.
  • Significant experience in management, prioritization, balancing competing demands and delivering in line with objectives and quality.
  • Knowledge of information technology supporting Management Information Systems
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities both with staff teams and organizationally.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and performing work with accuracy.
  • Knowledge and experience in all administrative aspects of financial and human resources management. 
  • Understanding of the Canadian sport culture and sport system in Canada are assets.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience at a senior management level, including responsibility for Financial Management and Management Information Systems.
  • Experience working in not-for-profit and/or sport sector.
The compensation package will be based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
