Own the Podium Welcomes Scott Hutcheson and Andrea Shaw to Board of Directors

—Hutcheson’s return and arrival of marketing ace, Shaw, add to business acumen of powerhouse leaders

OTTAWA—Calgary’s Scott Hutcheson, co-founder and executive chair of Aspen Properties, is returning to Own the Podium’s Board of Directors following a one-year hiatus during which he served as chair of Calgary’s 2026 Bid Committee. Joining Hutcheson and the 10-member Board is Andrea Shaw, a legend in the Canadian sponsorship industry.
“Own the Podium has been blessed to attract some of Canada’s top leaders in business and sport to its Board of Directors, and we are made stronger again with the addition of Andrea Shaw and the return of Scott Hutcheson,” said Todd Nicholson, chair, Own the Podium’s Board of Directors. “Their passion for sport and for strengthening our Canadian community through sport will be invaluable to moving Own the Podium’s vision forward through to the 2020 and 2022 Games, and beyond.”
Prior to his selection as chair of the Calgary 2026 Bid Committee, Hutcheson served on Own the Podium’s Board of Directors for three years. He founded Aspen Properties in 1998 – a fully integrated, privately held commercial real estate company based in Calgary that owns and manages approximately $1.2 billion in assets comprising 3.7 million square feet of downtown office space and 3,000 parking stalls in Alberta’s two largest cities, including the iconic Calgary Tower.
A Canadian business icon, Hutcheson is an active member in the community and has served on numerous boards. His leadership acumen was developed in sport. Hutcheson was a member of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team from 1978 to 1982, a first team All-American NCAA athlete, and a member of four NCAA Championship ski teams.
“Be it as an athlete or in business, I have always said my life has been guided by the Maple Leaf,” said Hutcheson. “Sport, at the grassroots or elite level, plays such a critical role in strengthening  communities across the country. I am absolutely honoured to rejoin Own the Podium’s Board of Directors and play a role in supporting Canadian athletes in their quest  to climb onto the Olympic or Paralympic podium and inspire youth in all corners of our country.”
Shaw is also no stranger to Canada’s Olympic and Paralympic sport community. The sponsorship and marketing ace has built an impressive career focused on  elevating the potential of sport, culture, and community.
Shaw has negotiated more than $1 billion in sponsorship deals over the course of her career. She is the Founder and Managing Partner of TTG Canada and its subsidiary firms TTG Partnerships and TORQUE Strategies, previously also holding the role of Vice-President of Sponsorship, Sales and Marketing for the Vancouver Organizing Committee of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games (VANOC). Shaw’s community contributions have included serving as the inaugural Chair of Destination BC, as well as membership on the Board of Directors of the B.C. Women’s Hospital Foundation and the B.C. Cancer Foundation. Shaw was inducted into the Canadian Sponsorship Hall of Fame in 2018.
“Supporting Canada’s athletes, and uniting the country through sport and business, has always been a deep passion of mine,” said Shaw. “To be able to do so as part of Own the Podium, an organization I have worked closely with since its inception, is an incredible opportunity to support  a new generation of medal winners for Canada while encouraging all Canadians to become more physically active. I am truly honoured.”
