About Own the Podium

‍

Own the Podium is a not-for-profit organization that provides leadership for Canadian sports to achieve sustainable and improved podium performances at the Olympic and Paralympic Games through a valuesbased approach. It prioritizes and determines investment strategies for National Sport Organizations in an effort to deliver more Olympic and Paralympic medals for Canada. Own the Podium’s largest contributor of funding is the Government of Canada with additional funding provided by the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), the Canadian Olympic Foundation, and the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC). Own the Podium continues to drive Canada’s high performance sport system forward in a quest to help more athletes and coaches succeed in future Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Scope of Position

‍

Reporting to the Vice-President, Performance Sciences, Research & Innovation (PSRI), the Advisor, PSRI, provides expertise, assistance, and guidance to targeted Olympic and Paralympic sports in the ongoing implementation and assessment of performance sciences service delivery. In addition, the individual will provide guidance to national sporting organizations regarding the development of applied sport research projects and engage in monitoring of targeted projects. This position is highly collaborative with its partners and colleagues to ensure performance sciences, research and innovation deliverables are aligned with the objectives of the national sporting organization.

Key Responsibilities:

‍

• Advise targeted sports and/or selected practitioners in performance sciences, research and innovation, and the planning and periodization of training.
• Participate in evaluating, developing, and advising on selected individual sport plans for enhanced PSRI-specific advisory work including on-site mentorship, assessments, recommendations, and reports in collaboration with OTP High Performance Advisors (HPA)
• Support HPAs in the assessment and tracking of national sports organizations in specific program areas, such as performance gap analysis, athlete profiling, Integrated Support Team (IST) structures and effectiveness, and research and innovation.
• Translate research findings into actionable insights and practical recommendations.
• Provide guidance and support to national sporting organizations in the development of annual research and innovation plans.
• Evaluate national sport organization research and innovation plans, prepare reports and analysis, and recommend funding allocation.
• Provide expert advice and guidelines related to performance sciences to NSOs for major Games’ preparation, as requested by COC.
• Provide guidance and support to national sport organizations in assessing and/or implementing technology innovation supporting athlete performance.
• Participate in national sport organization and CSI hiring committees of potential sport scientists, as requested.
• Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and stay abreast of the latest research and innovation in performance sciences.
• Contribute to the dissemination of knowledge and best practices through presentations, workshops, publications, and participation in national and international conferences.
• May participate and/or lead national working groups/committees/councils or programs that connect to or oversee national policies, guidelines and/or best practices related to performance sciences.
• Participate in internal cross-functional working groups and projects, as required.
• Review, recommend and implement work processes and/or policies for efficient operations of the department.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Education

‍

• Completion of a PhD or Master’s degree in Kinesiology or Engineering Sciences, or a related field

AND

• At least 3 to 5 years of experience working in the Olympic, or Paralympic or high-performance sport environment

OR

• At least 5 years of experience in conducting applied research and translating results into practice for the sport environment.

Compensation

‍

• Salary range: $100,000 to $115,000 (CND).
• Final compensation will be based on qualifications and experience.
• Benefits package will be provided.
