OTTAWA— Own the Podium(OTP) welcomed the appointment of Loreley Chekay and Mohamed Bhamani toits Board of Directors, strengthening the organization's governance with twoaccomplished leaders in law, finance, strategy and high-performance sport.
The appointments further bolster the organization's Board as itcontinues to guide Canada's high-performance sport system in supportingathletes and coaches on their journey to winning well at the Olympic andParalympic Games. Returning for the final year of his term, Rob Hatchwill continue to serve as Chair of the Board of Directors.
"Loreley and Mohamed are exceptional leaders whose professionalexpertise and passion for sport will be tremendous assets to Own thePodium," said Hatch. "They each bring unique perspectives and provenleadership in governance, strategy, finance and organizational excellence.Together, they will help strengthen our Board as we continue working alongsideour national sport partners to support Canada’s athletes and coaches in thepursuit of their performance goals."
Regina’s Chekay brings more than 20 years of executive legal andgovernance leadership, most recently serving as Executive Vice President,General Counsel and Chief Risk Officer for SGI, SGI Canada & CoachmanInsurance. A King's Counsel and certified corporate director, she has held manyleadership positions including Vice Chair of the Canadian Bar Association andcurrently serves on several sport organization boards.
Her connection to high-performance sport is equally distinguished. Agraduate in sport science from the University of Canberra and formerbiomechanics analyst at the Australian Institute of Sport, Chekay workeddirectly with Australia's national swimming program, collaborating with coachesand sport scientists to support elite athlete performance.
Bhamani is a Partner in Ernst & Young LLP's Government and PublicSector Practice, where he leads the firm's Municipal Government Practice. AChartered Professional Accountant with a Master of Business Administration, hehas spent more than two decades advising public sector organizations ongovernance, financial sustainability, enterprise risk and organizationalstrategy.
His governance experience includes a decade on the Board of Directors ofthe Canadian Mothercraft Society, where he currently serves as Vice-Chair,helping guide one of Ontario's leading early childhood education and familyservice organizations. A lifelong supporter of Canadian sport and communityvolunteer, Bhamani also brings a deep appreciation for athlete developmentthrough his family's involvement in competitive youth sport.
